90 Day Giving Challenge

Yesterday, we taught through a very important text in the book of Mark, highlighted by verse 17:

Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.”

So what belongs to God? Everything surely, but in this context Jesus was specifically addressing taxes and to where should the monetary resources of the Jewish people go during the Roman occupation. The call to give to God that which belongs to him is comprehensive and calls for a complete submission of all that we are and have to him. One of the biggest struggles in this area is in regards to our own money. This is not a new problem but has been a struggle for the people of God for centuries. The bible shows us this very clearly in Malachi 3:8-10:

Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In your tithes and contributions. You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me, the whole nation of you. Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

We decided that today would be an opportunity for us to literally put our money where our mouth is. We believe God has provided everything in our lives and that he will continue to do so. We believe that God has called generosity to be a marker of discipleship. So now we believe that by committing as a community to a 90-Day Giving Challenge that God will honor our obedience to Him and pour down for us a blessing until there is no more need.

For many, the idea of giving cheerfully, sacrificially and regularly Church seems overwhelming or even scary. But giving is about training our heart to trust God at His Word. It’s about his provision and his power, not our own. Countless people experience God's blessing when they give faithfully . This doesn’t mean you’ll be a billionaire or a yacht will magically appear in your front yard. It means God will do what he says, “pour out blessing until there is no more need.” Trust him!
